When I tell people I honeymooned in Anguilla, 3 out of 4 of them say, “Where’s that?”
I hesitate to let everyone in on the secret of this breathtakingly beautiful island. When TravelAnne was helping me plan my honeymoon there wasn’t much question about what island I would be going to. All my husband and I wanted to do was relax on a beautiful beach.
I have been to almost 10 of the Caribbean islands and I will have to say that Anguilla has the most beautiful beach of them all! The water is crystal clear blue and the sand feels like powdered sugar in between your toes.
We decided to split our time between two hotels on the Island, The Four Seasons Resort and Malliouhana Resort. These are two very different, but equally great properties which we enjoyed very much.
The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla opened in 2009 and is the most modern and arguably the most luxurious property on the island. The Kelly Wearstler-designed resort manages to mix an upscale look with a laid-back, beachy feel.
The property features sleek lines, modern amenities, numerous art installations, earth tones, wood, stone, and gold accents. This look continues through the 166 rooms, which have spacious balconies as well as marble bathrooms with separate showers and soaking tubs.
Though the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla certainly attracts couples, the resort features a kids' club and teen's club as well. The property has two beachfronts on both Barnes Bay and Meads Bay as well as 3 large pools.
I believe the best feature of this hotel is the Sunset lounge. This is where you can sip cocktails, enjoy sushi or small bites and listen to live reggae music all while enjoying the most stunning views of Barnes Bay. We ended up cancelling our dinner reservations two separate nights and just had dinner there because we enjoyed the atmosphere so much.
The next hotel property we went to was Malliouhana, a member of the Auberge Resort Collection. It exudes island charm with its one of a kind beautiful light blue and white archways. The staff, in their vibrant colored uniforms and a big smiles greeting you at the entrance. Malliouhana is a luxury boutique hotel with so much to offer!
Malliouhana originally opened in 1984 and was Anguilla’s first luxury hotel. The hotel sits atop bluffs overlooking the ocean and several beaches, which makes for a great place to watch the sunset.
The look throughout Malliouhana is beachy and breezy, with a touch of Caribbean colonial style, including plenty of white, pastel, and light wood hues found throughout common areas. There are also beautiful paintings of Edenic scenes by the late Haitian artist Jasmin Joseph on the resort’s walls and guest rooms. The property has two beach fronts and two infinity pools as well.
We spent most of our days on the beachfront at Meads Bay. It is by far the place in which I want to spend many more days in my lifetime! I am not sure I could ever get used to how beautiful this beach is, it almost looks fake. Another reason we liked Meads Bay was because of Leon’s one of the hotels restaurants located on the beach. It is a charming sports bar where we had lunch a few days. We also were able to enjoy live reggae music on Sunday evening there amongst many locals.
Malliouhana’s main restaurant, known as Celeste was another highlight. Over our 7 day stay here, we were greeted by the chef on numerous occasions. He also expressed to us that if there was something that we would like that wasn’t on the menu, we should not hesitate to ask. We also decided to do a private dining experience on the beach, on one of the last nights of our honeymoon. Between the excellent service, delicious cuisine and beautiful views of the sunset, it was a special experience that I will never forget.
Overall, our honeymoon on the island of Anguilla was perfect! I couldn’t recommend this island more for a relaxing vacation. Travel Anne has much experience booking in the Caribbean, especially Anguilla. With her booking, we were given room upgrades at both hotels and complimentary breakfast each day!
