Technically Lake Como is Italy's third largest lake. For our money it's the most beautiful. Located at the foot of the Alps, Lake Como provides one of the most picturesque sceneries in the world.

There's a good reason celebrities like George Clooney, Sting and Richard Branson have villas there.

The entire perimeter of Lake Como is studded with charming villages and towns. The most popular destinations are definitely Bellagio, Varenna and the city that gives its name to the lake, Como.

The best time to visit this charming destination is summertime, but Spring and Fall can be just as good and a little less pricey.

The 5-star resort experience is (well) 5-STAR! If we're name dropping, we love Villa d'Este, Mandarin Oriental Lago di Como and Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni.

But running neck and neck are The Grand Hotel Tremezzo and Il Sereno Lago di Como.

The fact is, there are a lot of choices and we can help you choose wisely. Bottom line... If Lake Como is not on you bucket list, you should consider putting it there.

Here's more on this majestic destination from our friends at Condé Nast Traveler!

Editor's Note: Whether it's a 2-week escape or a 2-day weekend getaway, we're here to make it happen.
